At this time, it appears that at least 18 died and more than 135 were injured. Investigation is continuing relative to who or what may have caused a Union Pacific freight train to collide head-on with Metrolink Train 111. Following the heroic efforts of the Los Angeles Fire Department and other responders, the National Transportation Safety Board has begun its inquiry to determine responsibility and to explain why warning and safety systems failed. Tragically, Los Angeles County officials have indicated the primary cause may well have been simple human error.
Injured Metrolink passengers have been transported to a number of area hospitals, including UCLA Medical Center, Northridge Medical Center, Holy Cross Medical Center, and Mission Hills Hospital. Family members of passengers on Train 111 have been told to call (800) 371-LINK for more information. In addition, the Los Angeles Fire Dept. has released two numbers to call for information on hospital patients: (213) 847-2117 and (213) 847-2118.
If you or a family member has been injured in this accident, you have more than enough with which to deal. Our firm stands ready to answer your questions and to take on the legal issues, the filing of claims, the gathering of information, and the preservation of evidence. Please feel free to contact us.
